Homes to Occupy
We are independent in our nature, this is true, and we love the flowers that abound the meticulous landscape overlooking the sea. Yet, as thinkers we hummingbirds gather collectively as we buzz at one flower then the next in our chosen path. We respect your individual route, yes this is true. We think it very important to have and cherish an individual space.
Yet something new in the air is about us. Something is changing what we have always been. We sparkle and dance and show off our colors, we relax when we are home on our plants. As the tiniest bird we bring splendor and joy and wonder, to whom?
Children and elders and humans who provide for us the flowers of nature we love in rich habitat. We are trying to say in too many words, these huge wonderful magnificent mansions overlooking the water, and silhouetted in the trees bring a peaceful feeling of beauty and tranquility. They have been built with the utmost care and warmth and grandeur.
But what does it matter if no children's voices are heard there? Why are there not 5 children filling up the enormous bedrooms of 6, we've noticed even 6 bathrooms. Why not put a kitchenette in each room too, that could mean independent living human style, like us.
Against some kind of human code it seems, cannot it not be turned into community living somehow? Is not the driveway big enough? No room for enough cars? Carpooling is too hard to manage, some say. We understand having their own way to get around, yes, to some it is even a necessity.
Even though we travel like the speed of light, we understand the individuality in traveling to and from alone. But think about it anyway how buses, or ferries, or learning how to fly helicopters or little airplanes, could transport us from this grand island and back again to these luscious homes with such beautiful views.
It is the main message of habitat for humanity. You give us homes of flowers and feeders abundantly. What can be done with these beautiful homes for human families? Renting them out for honeymoons or weddings would bring joy to our little hearts.
Can any thing be done in a family or friendship way to turn these into habitat homes instead of taking up more precious land to build our own? How much would it really take to change these into a family friend party guest house to dorms or something for mutual living? Or a resort camp, or nature school, or nature conservatory with the homes for people to live in?
We look in the empty windows every day, they've been empty for years. Yet the grass is kept cut nicely, and the flowers we love cut neat and trim, landscapes are kept immaculate and the house stays bright and clean with fashionable furniture, and artistic paintings, but we feel it's sadness at being empty.
How about renting it out for weddings? Or parties or celebrations? Or graduations? Why do they just sit there? Laws, taxes, liabilities, lending, we don't understand.
Hummingbirds it is true are known for their lack of understanding of material things, after all, we are the tiniest of birds. Yet we travel far and see much of the world, and that has given us these keen little minds full of questioning. Of course being created full of joy from Great Mystery is the only way we know how to be.
Truly it is the nectar of those landscapes, maybe better than any other place on earth, don't take it wrong, we know nothing but joy, but we love to hear the laughter and joy of every girl and boy. Love is the family and the gathering round, isn't that the hope of every home?
Just wanted to say, think about it, look at it a different way. Those homes are magnificent, people poured into them their heart and souls, let them become useful and that will bless the land, for people and nature, won't that be grand?

An interesting perspective. Intrigued by the perspective and voice I enjoyed the journey of observation and problem solving. The wonderful links offered short excursions here and there, helping to fill my must read file. Power to the hummingbirds, I say!
